Classes
All of our classes are tailored for students who are novice dancers up to those with extensive experience. If you have questions about class offerings or placements, please contact Shamene.
Game Day!
This class focuses on the type of dance you see on the sidelines and at halftimes of your favorite sporting events. Cheerleading voice and sharp arm movements, with or without poms, are learned and strengthened. Jumps, leaps, turns, and kicks are traditional dance skills introduced and improved in this class. An emphasis on performance quality and showmanship is key to this style. Different Game Day aspects will be highlighted each class and combinations will be learned to incorporate the skills gained. If your child loves excitement and precision and maybe wants to cheer or dance for their high school or college team someday, this class is perfect!
Hip Hop
Hip Hop can be a fun, creative outlet for children. If the idea of traditional dance types is not your child’s jam, hip hop just might be a great option! The focus will be on rhythm and expression using body isolations and even stylized tricks. In hip hop class the dancer has the opportunity to make the moves “their own” by interpreting the movement and the music in their own unique way. Core strength, body awareness, performance, and musicality are focuses of this style. Hip Hop is a great way to start dance if your child is hesitant about trying dance and is also for those children who know they love dance and want to break free of some of the rules.
Tumbling
This class focuses on proper strength, stretching, and alignment of the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints to be able to perform gymnastic style skills. Most of the class is spent on the conditioning required to perform skills safely. Stations are often utilized to be sure each student gets all the conditioning necessary. Once students are properly strong and stretched, tumbling skills can be attempted at their appropriate level. Each student progresses at an individual pace using a checklist of skills. Different tools such as specialty mats and trampolines may be used to help students progress safely. This class is a great introduction to the world of dance and the techniques learned can be utilized in Game Day, Hip Hop, and Lyrical classes to supplement those dance styles.
Tap
Tap is a style where dancers use tap shoes to create sounds with their feet while moving to the music. The feet become an instrument as the dancer expresses the musical beat. Tap can be seen in theater shows and done in a character fashion (like on Broadway). It can also be done in a “street” fashion that resembles hip hop and blends sounds like a drummer riffing on their instrument. Tap allows your child to explore sound creation through movement and performance. This is a great class for those who like to keep their feet busy!
Ballet
Many styles and methods of ballet exist, but when we think of ballet, Classical ballet is usually what comes to mind. This is a dance style of graceful/flowing movements, balance, precise body lines, specific postures/positions and an angelic quality. Ballet develops and requires strength, fluidity, and stamina which is why it is often used by dancers of all styles and athletes alike to improve and maintain agility and fitness. Ballet class is structured to use the barre to develop skills safely. Then dancers progress across the floor and learn technical skills. These skills can be combined to become a beautiful routine. Ballet can improve your child’s focus, persistence, spatial awareness, coordination, and etiquette. If your child enjoys lovely music and a traditional style, or is an athlete wanting injury prevention techniques, flexibility, agility and strength, then ballet class just might be the right fit!
Lyrical
This style focuses on the interpretation of the song being danced to as the dancer emotes and expresses themself through movement. While the technical skills can range, they are often closely associated with the technique of ballet. Proper control and skill help the dancer to fully realize their expression. This style is for older students as it requires physical skills as well as a maturity for story-telling. If your child enjoys emotional portrayals of music, this is their class!
Sprouts
For ages 2-3 years in their first or second year of dance, this class is creative movement with some fundamental ballet techniques. Children will explore musicality and expression while developing fine and gross motor skills. The ability to be independent in a classroom setting is a goal for children in this class and it is perfectly ok if they need to work on this skill! This is a class for the littlest learners to start to feel comfortable in a new setting with new friends and a new teacher. It is all new! Tiny Tots gives our youngest students the chance to be imaginative and playful and utilize fun props for a joyful introduction to movement and music. Dancers will be engaged in activities to promote spatial awareness, following directions and making rhythms. Learning pre ballet skills, coordination, and balance are great side effects to all the fun your child will be having in this class.
